Wrapping it up in East Lansing.

Couple of before and after pictures to help visualize the moment. In the staging area before an excellent performance and the stress reducing ritual of destroying your set. The kids let it all hang out after it was over. If someone can help me bottle that we can go ahead and retire.
The kids had a great time, traded pins with new friends from around the world, and had enough time to put in two quality performances and finish in the top ten in the world. Not bad for their first big road trip. We are all very proud of their efforts over a very long season. Make sure at some point to ask them if they enjoyed it?

We gave it a great try.

Our friends from Warsaw who came in first at states took first. Job well done by all.

Getting close.

They gave out 2nd & 3rd so there is only one spot left for us in top six.

Update

They are naming all the 4,5,6 place teams for each of the 5 problems first. We were not in any of those places so fingers crossed.

Apparently the streaming video on the web isn't't working.

I will try to update as I can.

Long term is over.

The kids did fantastic and are very thrilled that it is over. We will find out our scores in 30 minutes. Yeah!

Some good clean fun.

The kids were getting on each others nerves but managed to pull it together long enough to cream each other.

Update.

The first picture is the lining up of the teams by the " men in kilts" where they really get the kids fired up for Spontaneous . The second one is Vary waiting further to come out. Everyone is having a little down time before we run through a practice before storing the props.

Post spontaneous excitement

Feed the drivers

Bob Evans and his world famous Bob B Que was the adventure of choice for lunch for Bob and Robie just 50 miles south of East Landing. Meanwhile the kids have landed in Detroit and are currently on the bus enroute to the university.

Road trip.

We finally changed drivers so I could test Robies ipod knowledge and he did slightly better until we got to my country music. This picture is from a rest stop about an hour and a half south of Columbus OH. We checked on our cargo there and the West Virginia roads were not kind. Nothing a little spray paint won't fix. Somehow Robie missed the fact that I didn't latch the trailer door properly until a guy honked at us. Everything is ok we hadn't gone far. Next stop Columbus.

Road tales

We are on our way, trailer in tow. We left Trinity at 10:30 and and should make Columbus, Ohio in time for Iron Man 2 at a local theater.  Lunched at Subway in Wytheville, Virginia. Back.on the road, listening to a random shuffle of the song on my iPod. So far, Bob is batting about 100 on guessing the singers or bands. How could he miss the Traveling Wilburys? We just crossed over to West Virginia, looking out for some mountian topped hills. At least he got Eric Clayton right .

Description of the Nature Trailer Problem

For those of you who are following the team but are not aware of the problem the kids have solved I am including a short description here:

The Problem
The team's problem is to design, build and drive a human-powered vehicle that travels along with a Camper on a camping trip. When the vehicle and Camper arrive at the Campground, the vehicle leaves the Camper behind and travels on a Nature Trail. On the Nature Trail, the vehicle overcomes an obstacle, cleans up the environment, encounters wildlife, and is repaired. The performance will also include a Campground Character that relates the vehicle's experiences from the Campground.
The creative emphases of the problem are on the vehicle, the Camper's change of appearance, the Nature Trail, the circumstances the vehicle encounters on the Nature Trail and how it overcomes them, and the Campground Character. The Spirit of the Problem is for the team to design, build and drive a human-powered vehicle that travels with a Camper and goes on a camping trip. At the Campground, the vehicle leaves the Camper, which changes appearance, and travels on a Nature Trail, where it encounters four different circumstances. A Campground Character at the Campground relates the vehicle's experiences to others.

More Pictures of the team

I thought I should include a few more pictures from our season that have yet to be published, and you can probably see why. Today the team did their performance for the school and it went very well. Their are definately seasoned professionals by now and are excited by the challenge that awaits. If anyone has any pictures they want to share just email them to me and I will put them on.

Links with families

Calling all parents! With any luck at all I have set up a working Blog about our OM'ers adventures that we can use to stay in touch during our trip to Worlds. It will hopefully contact you each time something new is entered on the blog but I would like for everyone to attempt to log on and add a comment just to see if everything is working. You may have to connect with one of the links this service uses. Since it is a Google site gmail works as does Facebook. Feel free to add any pictures you may have and encourage the kids to add to it and forward it to any friends they have who may want to keep up with them.

Thanks Bob.

2nd Place at State

A little disbelief in their faces?

Six Months and Counting

Who would have thought that when we first sat down last November, having no idea what these 7 kids would be creating, that we would still not have finished by now. It's a good thing the Odyssey of the Mind judges keep giving us more time to figure it all out. Even though everyone has put forth Herculean efforts it seems that most have spent enough of their lives being creative.
